Exploring Male Femininity with a Drag-Inspired Photoshoot

In collaboration with photographer and drag artist Carlos Khu, I explored the concept of gender roles and the tension between femininity and masculinity, examining how the boundaries between them can blur. The photoshoot, set in Kuala Lumpur, featured garments from independent Malaysian fashion designers.

Creative Process

“A gender equal society would be a place where masculine or feminine doesn’t exist: where everyone can just be themselves and feel accepted.”

KEY MESSAGE

The inspiration for this project stems from my experiences growing up, being bullied for being too feminine and shamed by my parents for being 'like a girl.' I wanted to transform this painful memory into a positive message, using photography as a medium to embrace what was once seen as a negative trait. Through this project, I aimed to express these emotions and empower both myself and others who may have faced similar experiences.
